The Brittany Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charity dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, care and placement of homeless dogs.
The dogs are shown at our weekly adoption program at our sanctuary in Agua Dulce. Please check our schedule for adoption events. While in our care, the dogs are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and given a thorough check-up along with any necessary medical attention. Our dogs are also microchipped. If dogs are not adopted, they will live at the sanctuary for their entire life. We run a no-kill facility.
We rescue all dogs, regardless of breed, and we often focus our efforts on the harder-to-place dogs such as seniors, disabled or abused dogs, and "media condemned" breeds such as Pit Bulls, Chow Chows, & Dobies. It's relatively easy to find a home for a cute little Chihuahua, but the gratification for us comes from placing the 6-year-old Pit Bull with one eye, the stray mutt who has never had a home before, or the 12-year-old Doberman with severe separation anxiety (who is now living in a wonderful home of his own). Of late, we are rescuing more puppy mill dogs and victims of foreclosure. Of course, we also have the adorable, easy, well-behaved angels who are still searching for their forever homes too.

The Brittany Foundation family recently lost one of its most beloved members. Many of our long-time supporters will remember Precious, a beautiful pit mix who came to us in 1995 at only a year old. Always happy, always wagging her tail and smiling at everyone who approached her, Precious could steal your heart in an instant.
After a couple of adoptive homes over the years that didn't work out, Precious finally found her forever home about three and a half years ago, with Brittany Foundation volunteers Matt and Vicki. In those three years, Matt and Vicki managed to give Precious a lifetime of love and attention, treats, and even pretty clothes! All of us who knew Precious will always be grateful for the ocean of love she received while she was with them.

In the last six months of her life, Precious developed oral bone cancer. She underwent several palliative surgeries over those months, and lived well despite the cancer and its treatment. Her good days vastly outnumbered her bad days, and she was a happy dog right up until her very last day.
Our volunteers, the people who knew Precious for so many years, said it best: "In a sea of special dogs, Precious stood out with a bright light. Always smiling and wagging, her beautiful face just radiated joy. She belonged to all of us at Brittany Foundation, and we have lost a sister." |

The Brittany Foundation is an all-volunteer organization. Our devoted staff handles the care, feeding, event coordination, public awareness campaigns and many other needs for our busy facility. Brittany Foundation volunteers know each dog personally, and they know how to assist you in finding the right dog for your needs, home and lifestyle.
Without the devotion to animals that the Brittany Foundation volunteers bring to our organization, we could not survive to help these dogs find homes.
If you are interested in volunteering, check out the "Get Involved" section of our website. Even if you can't give a dog a home, you can make a difference in an animal's life. The Brittany Foundation is always seeking fellow dog lovers to assist our humane mission. |
